Paul Porter became pastor of Eden United Church of Christ on October 1, 2014. After completing his studies at Eden Theological Seminary and was approved for ordination by the St. Louis Association of the Missouri Mid-South Conference UCC, he was called as full-time pastor and teacher by the congregation in April 2015. He received his Master of Divinity in May, was ordained in August and installed in November 2015. During seminary, Paul served as the licensed pastor for St. Peter UCC in Hookdale, IL.
Paul serves on the Board of Directors of the Affton Christian Food Pantry as vice-president. He is also a facilitator for Sacred Conversations on Racial Justice and Equity in the St. Louis Association of the Missouri Mid-South Conference of the United Church of Christ
Prior to seminary, Paul was active in lay and music leadership in both UCC and Presbyterian congregations. He grew up on a small dairy farm in Massachusetts and after receiving graduate degrees in animal nutrition, lived throughout the Midwest working in the dairy feed industry as a researcher, product trainer and dairy management consultant.
Paul and his wife Cindie live in Webster Groves. Their blended family of five adult children are spread around the country from Florida to Chicago to Missouri to Nebraska.
Outside of church, Paul enjoys reading, music and travel; he is an avid Boston Red Sox fan, but has been welcomed by the congregation nonetheless! He and Cindie have three dogs and have been active in Senior Dogs 4 Seniors dog rescue, fostering rescued dogs until a new forever home is found or providing hospice care.
